PFA TUBES FAQ

PFA tubes are available in two manufacturing formats — extruded and molded — each suited to different applications.

PFA extruded tubes:

  • Made by melt extrusion (PFA pellets heated and pushed through an annular die).
  • Available in small to medium diameters (0.5 mm – 150 mm ID).
  • Supplied in continuous lengths or coils.
  • Typically thin-walled, flexible, and translucent.
  • Best for fluid transfer, insulation sleeves, and medical/lab use.

PFA molded tubes (hollow rods):

  • Made by compression molding + sintering.
  • Available in large diameters (up to 600 mm ID) with thick walls (up to 50 mm).
  • Supplied as short billets (100–300 mm).
  • Stronger, denser → ideal for machining into gaskets, seals, and valve parts.

Quick guide: Choose extruded PFA tubes for flexible continuous runs, and molded PFA tubes for large, heavy-duty machining stock.

PFA tubes are available in a wide range of sizes, wall thicknesses, and tolerances, depending on whether they’re extruded or molded.

Extruded PFA tubes:

  • Inner diameter (ID): 0.5 mm – 150 mm
  • Wall thickness: 0.1 mm – 5 mm
  • Lengths: Continuous coils (25 m, 50 m, 100 m) depending on gauge

Molded PFA tubes:

  • ID: 20 mm – 600 mm
  • Wall thickness: up to 50 mm
  • Lengths: 100–300 mm billets

Tolerances:

  • Extruded tubes → excellent precision for thin-wall applications
  • Molded tubes → denser stock with tighter machining tolerances

Whether you need microbore tubing or large hollow billets, PFA tubes can be tailored to exact dimensions.

PFA tubes are widely used where high purity, chemical resistance, and thermal endurance are essential.

Key industries & applications:

  • Semiconductors & electronics → Ultrapure chemical transfer, high-voltage insulation tubing
  • Chemical processing → Molded tubes machined into valve seats & seals, extruded tubing for acid/solvent handling
  • Medical & pharmaceuticals → Sterile fluid transfer lines, biocompatible catheters & lab tubing
  • Aerospace & automotive → Lightweight chemical conduits, heat-stable insulation sleeves
  • Food & beverage → FDA-compliant hygienic transfer tubing

Bottom line: PFA tubes are indispensable where chemical compatibility and long-term performance are non-negotiable.

While all three belong to the fluoropolymer family, their processing, clarity, and performance differ.

PFA tubes:

  • Extrudable & moldable → highly versatile
  • Service temp: up to 260 °C
  • Excellent stress-crack resistance
  • Transparent to translucent

PTFE tubes:

  • Made by ram extrusion or molding (not melt-processable)
  • Service temp: up to 260 °C
  • Opaque, softer, more creep under load

FEP tubes:

  • Extrudable like PFA
  • Service temp: up to 200 °C
  • High clarity but lower stress-crack resistance
  • More cost-effective

 Summary guide:

  • Choose PFA tubes → for high purity, extreme chemical resistance, and 260 °C service
  • Choose PTFE tubes → for rigid, heavy-duty, high-temp applications
  • Choose FEP tubes → for cost-efficient, transparent tubing under 200 °C

PFA tubes can be tailored with custom dimensions, finishes, and colors to meet industry-specific needs.

Surface treatments:

  • Etched tubing → enables bonding to metals/composites
  • Adhesive-backed tubing → peel-and-stick installation

Formats:

  • Microbore extruded tubing → as small as 0.5 mm ID
  • Thick-wall molded tubes → for heavy-duty machining
  • Continuous coils → for long, uninterrupted fluid runs

Colors & identification:

  • Natural PFA → translucent
  • Pigmented tubing (blue, black, red, etc.) for line identification

Special applications:

  • Semiconductors → ultrapure PFA transfer lines
  • Medical → biocompatible, sterilisation-resistant tubing
  • Aerospace → lightweight insulation sleeves

With etching, pigmentation, and custom dimensions, PFA tubes can be engineered for nearly any high-performance application.
